Apostle Matthias!
He was designated to be 12th Apostle as the substitute of Judas the Iscariot. He used to be a brother in the community, but now he becomes an Apostle which is "the position of overseer" (Acts 1:20).
Let's read the Scriptures carefully. The Bible said he was chosen by cast lots. It happened between the ascension of Jesus Christ to the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem. Mattias must be awed by this happening. How can I be an Apostle? Who am I? What can I do?
When we were called to be an ecclesiastic position in a local church, we would have the same feelings and questions that Matthias had experienced. The answer is the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes on us, "we can do everything in Christ Jesus who gives us power and strength" (Philippians 4:13). Any kinds of ecclesiastic position don't bring life but Jesus, only Jesus gives us joy and life. Let's go back to our basic: "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life." (John 14:6a). Cherish Him in our heart and walk always together with Him!
